City of Lakes 25K

Professor FarnsworthGreat news, everyone! On Monday, I will have City of Lakes 25K entry forms for those who want them. The event itself is on the weekend on Sept 8/9th. Some of us ran this event last year, it’s a very familiar course. Additionally, rather then getting another T-Shirt, the race gift is a mug. A race that gives out mugs begs the question of an additional “Drink out of your mug” party at the super-secret Franke Run Club hideout.

SO? How’d it go? Did you all run the City of Lakes? Your Central American satellite location needs an update! We did our first 18-miler yesterday. I used to think I would gag if I had to run the same loop around the Lakes one more time. Now, after running around the track here, I think I could run around one lake multiple times and savor the variety! 48 days to Marine Corps!!!

There’s a strong possibility that the only runner of the City of Lakes 25K was CC. It didn’t sound like Franke was going to run on Friday, and I was out of town all weekend. Others may have run, but I haven’t heard anything about their intentions going into the event.

For my part, I had to run a 10 and a 20 this weekend. I ran the 10 on Sat morning, then immediately drove to Iowa City (I was in Riverside, IA for the run) and started tailgaiting. Game time was 7PM, my head finally hit the pillow at around 1AM. We were up again around 8AM, and I was running again by noon on Sunday. I ran the 20 indoors on a tenth mile track, so I feel your pain relative the repeating scenery. I ran inside by choice since I didn’t have any way to carry water, and felt that I was starting a little dehydrated anyway.

As an interesting aside, on these longer runs I tend to loose about five pounds of water weight. When I run in Iowa City, I have a “Metler” scale for pre and post run weight comparison. The five pound figure includes drinking water every eleven minutes, but it’s very hard to keep up with the water loss without getting “TJM Stomach.”
