Received in email the morning:
Triathlon racing season will be here before you know it, so now’s the time to make your plans for 2008. The Pigman® Sprint , Pigman® Long Course and the races in the Heart of America Triathlon series have been providing outstanding races for more than 15 years.
By acting now, you can save money by entering early at most races. Plus, you can ensure that you have your spot reserved in the area’s premier triathlon events.
It’s a great race, give it a go!

I just received the email announcing open registration for the 2008 Get in Gear. You can find more information about the event itself from the Get in Gear website. The Get in Gear is a great race with a large field and something I look forward to each year. Sign up today! You know you want to..

I consider the racing results of the past year to have been successful. A new marathon PR at Marine Corps, a successful run in the tough conditions of Twin Cities, a sprint triathlon finish to use as a benchmark, and a 10K PR at Get in Gear.
For the upcoming year, I have entered my first Olympic distance triathlon. Swimming a respectable 1500m will be a daunting task. Known events for the coming year include:
- Frozen half marathon, Jan 26th — followed by the annual “Drink out of your mug” par-tay at the FRC super secrete hideout.
- Human Race 8K - Mar 19th
- Get-In-Gear 10K - Apr 26th
- Pigman Sprint Tri - Jun 1st
- Lifetime Olympic Tri - Jul 12th
- TNT or Blackdog time trial series?
- Bike club TT challenge (40K)?
The goal will be to work on getting faster at some cost to the longer runs. I’m going to try to actually train for triathlons this year, and — perhaps — I’ll get a new bike.

Great news, everyone! On Monday, I will have City of Lakes 25K entry forms for those who want them. The event itself is on the weekend on Sept 8/9th. Some of us ran this event last year, it’s a very familiar course. Additionally, rather then getting another T-Shirt, the race gift is a mug. A race that gives out mugs begs the question of an additional “Drink out of your mug” party at the super-secret Franke Run Club hideout.

I have a super secrete source of guaranteed entries to the Marine Corps Marathon. I’ll have to attempt to get more information once we find out how many want/need them. More discussion tonight at the FRC.

So, a couple of summers ago (2 or 1–I really don’t remember), a bunch of us talked about going to the Music in the Park at the Minnesota Zoo. Well, the 2007 line-up has just been announced and I’m putting out a call for the August 7th John Hiatt and Shawn Colvin Show or the August 10th Son Volt show. I’m not uber-impressed with the line-up, but know for sure that John Hiatt puts on a kick-ass show (I’ve seen him) and Shawn Colvin writes amazing songs. Let’s talk while we run.

You can still register for the Get-In-Gear 10K on Saturday. Unfortunately, you can no longer register for the Minnesota Ironman Bike Ride on Sunday. However if you are going to do the 100 mile distance on Sunday, you can keep your eye out for me. I’ll be the guy going horribly slow (late) or crazy fast. (early) I look for the wall to rear up and smash me somewhere around mile 35 or so. Looks like it’s going to be a long day.

In case you missed it, the Little 500 is going to be broadcast on TV. That’s right, HDNet is going to broadcast four hours of collegiate, single speed, cinder track racin’. (That’s a little tip ‘O the hat to the rest of the state of Indiana and that other little race.)

For those interested…
I signed up for the New York City Marathon today under the Ad-Hoc team of Franke Run Club. Unfortunately the entry fee went up to $120 and there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to get a guaranteed entry. But since I have already donated at least $400 to this silly race over the years, and have yet to run it, I think you all should do the same. However, if you go with the Marine Corp Marathon-I’ll probably join you there too.
