As many of you know, I’m a big fan of eMusic.com
and have been a subscriber with them for about two years. Now, there’s a link from the sidebar on the main page which you can use to start a free trial membership if you are so inclined. Twenty five free downloads isn’t a bad thing, and you can grab the eMusic’s FREE Daily Download
as well. Enjoy!

Hello all. I’ve made mention of quite a few books, movies, and will make mention of some music below. Since it is summer, I seem to be taking in quite a bit and have been fairly impressed with pretty much all of it. It must be my immaculate taste.
Movies:
Breach–quite fantastic with Chris Cooper playing a crooked FBI agent
Knocked Up–stoner humor and a very disgusting shot of Katherine Heigl crowning
Shooter–with Mark Wahlberg, enough said
Books:
Never Let Me Go–the boarding school/organ harvesting book
The Progress of Love–some pretty darned creepy and ephemeral stories about Canadian Lives
Music:
Two recommendations here, both by the same artist. Between Here and Gone and The Calling by Mary Chapin Carpenter are above and beyond anything she’s done before. If you like literate songs that nestle themselves somewhere between folk/rock/country, MCC is always a great choice.

I’m working on a compilation of Minneapolis/Twin Cities-themed music. First on my list is ssuth’s suggestion for Here Comes a Regular. Any other suggestions??

Dave Zollo is an eastern Iowa musician who I’ve had the pleasure of hearing play several times. Much of his music relates to the area around Johnson and Washington counties, including many places that I have been in real life. (Kind of like going to the CC Club and after listening to The Replacements “Here Comes a Regular”) His style is a combination of rock, blues, country, and roots; and his albums are published by his own Trailer Records label which will cleanse your soul of RIAA badness.
Emusic.com has Dave Zollo - The Big Night, check it out…

How can you not listen — at least once — to a band described as, Swiss electro-noise terrorists?
I mean, they’re Swiss. You know, that neutral place over there on the continent. How exactly do they create electo-noise terrorists? They get mentioned with the likes of Loop, KMFDM, and Rammstein; so if those things appeal then you should check these guys out.

First off, I don’t know if I’m doing this right. Second off, I’ll just attempt it and face considerable criticism next Monday if I am doing it wrong.
Check this wicked shit out:
A Great Movie: I watched Sherry Baby, a low-budget movie about an ex-con mom who just gets out of jail. She has considerable emotional problems, which make this movie edgy.
My New Favorite Read: The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Think creepy. Think poetic. Think end of the world.
Some Good Music: Believe it or not, I’m really digging Bright Eyes new CD Cassadaga–sort of strange, musically, but fun and a little too hip for me, on most occasions.
